Prince Job Paulo Kafeero - RIP, and thank you for the music!

Prince Job Paulo Kafeero (pictured) passed away in May 2007. He was 38. Kafeero as he was fondly known by his fans was undoubtedly one of the best musicians in his genre (kadongo kamu) in Uganda
Prince Job Paulo Kafeero (pictured) passed away in May 2007. He was 38.
Comrades, another legend has passed on! Prince Job Paulo Kafeero, 38, undoubtedly one of the best musicians in his genre our country has ever seen, is now forever immortalized in his song 'Walumbe Zaaya.? May the Lord rest his soul in peace.

Kafeero?s death probably marks the end of 'kadongo kamu' as we grew to know it. He was the voice and sound that shunned modernity for originality.

My main memories of the 'Golden Boy of Africa' are on the 'Family Sunday Show' here at Connect. I can't recall presenting a show that ever ended without a caller requesting a track from Paulo Kafeero; Walumbe Zaaya, Omwana w'Omuzungu, Dippo Nazzigala, Bulandina - the list is long! It's a pity I never got to interview the man like I always thought I would. Paulo, on behalf of the many, thank you for the music!

Following content added: 01-June-2007.

On behalf of the many who loved Prince Job Paulo Kafeero, I would like to thank you all for the time you took off to sign the condolence book. Most importantly, I would like to thank you for the love and support you showed our irreplaceable music icon. I think this is testimony that wherever we may be in this world, we are connected and still have our vibrant community feeling intact.

On 19th May 2007, Connect Uganda aired a radio programme in memory of Prince Job Paulo Kafeero, the ?Golden Boy of Africa.? This programme is now available in audio format. Click the player below to listen.

The comment section is now closed. May the Lord rest Prince Job Paulo Kafeero's soul in peace.

Great lessons from his music...
written by Kitaka Andrew, May 18, 2007
I don\'t know much about the late Paulo Job Kafeero...I however once listened to, \"...ensi eno gy\'olaba ekanude amaso...kakati onenya sitani naye bw\'eyali akukema, yakusanga wa...\" [Please pardon my spelling] Since then I grew to appreciate his music, and I realised that he taught some great lessons through his music; something that a lot of young artists should emulate.

It is unbelieveable and difficult to take to loose such a teacher, entertainer, artist, commedian and a friends to all the people who listen to uganda music especially Kadongo kamu, all people who listen to kadongo kamu will agree with me that after loosing Herman Basudde, Prince Paul Kafeero was the only kadongo kamu musician we left with because people like Lord Fred Ssebata, Willy Mukaabya etc all changed their bits from kadongo kamu to pop music, KITALO NYO we have lost a really teacher, I can't go without mentioning WALUMBE ZAAYA video, it was class and real. As Certain As Death
written by Richard Ssekiranda, May 19, 2007
Before death all men are equal. We can only live so long regardless of how far we may wish to stay on the surface of this planet. Thank you God for the gift of Paul Job Kafeero who since a young man recognised the fact that he was born to die and lived his life in accordance with his destiny. :?

He defied the odds !!
written by Benjamin Otim-Obonyo, May 20, 2007
I have always admired those who pluck guitar strings and sing. For example some one like the left-handed rock star, Jimi Hendrix and the African Franco.

People like the late Paulo Kafero were original African artists who were at some point in time thought to be inferior to the heavily electronics-assisted artists of the Western world of today. It was not so long ago that we have come to value our own local in-put into the world of entertainment. This trend should continue.

It is the originality of Kafero\'s composition /lyrics that made him what he was and earned him scores of admirers / fans. I particularly liked "Omwana w'Omuzungu", the same way I enjoy Irine Mubiru's graceful "Nkue kii". May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Ben.
